Safety plans on mobile applications are commonplace. However, for the safety plan to be effective in saving lives a patient – professional conversation is essential and there is limited training available on the what and the how of the guided discovery process that the duo must engage in. The session will provide details of the four rungs of the distress ladder (safe, edge, crisis, emergency) and how to navigate through them. This is based on the SAFE framework within PROTECT. Following this the session will focus on resilience using PROTECT’s HOPE framework. This draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and will support professionals to engage people going through difficult times in values-guided committed actions. By the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to (1) Explain the use of the four rungs of the distress ladder to match interventions while safety planning (SAFE framework) (2) Utilise an ACT-based intervention (HOPE framework) to support resilience. The session will conclude with a short Q&A with Dr. Kar Ray.
