The person in distress believes suicide is the solution to life’s misery and the professional believes that suicide is a permanent solution to a circumstances that are temporary. Attempts to pull one over to this alternative view of seeing the world will only activate resistance and make them more entrenched in their position. Training to understand that the suicidal mind wants to escape entrapment and wants to be pain free is crucial. This assists greatly in the discussion that there are alternatives and the professional is there to help them be pain free. Just that the path to recovery is slower and longer.
